Commercial video production is making a video built to sell something to customers, usually as a paid ad. It covers the script, the visuals, the voiceover and the edit, and the finished video runs on YouTube, LinkedIn, Meta, TikTok, a landing page or broadcast.
Commercial video production services normally include concept and script, storyboard, production, sound design and the platform versions you need. The part that separates a commercial from other business video is where it runs, since a commercial is media you pay to distribute, so it has to work for people who didn't choose to watch it.
Ours are animated rather than filmed. We make the ad from your product, your brand and your message rather than from footage shot on location.
A commercial sells, an explainer video teaches, and a corporate video explains the company to its own people and investors. The audience is what separates them.
A commercial speaks to someone who didn't ask to see it, which is why the first two seconds carry so much of the work. An explainer speaks to someone already trying to understand what you do, so it can take 60 or 90 seconds to build an argument. A corporate video speaks to employees, candidates, investors or the board, and it isn't selling anything.
Plenty of campaigns use more than one. A common shape is a commercial for the paid campaign, an explainer on the landing page it sends people to, and a product demo for the sales conversation after that. Our guide to 13 B2B marketing video types maps the rest.
All our work is animated. We don't send camera crews, book locations or cast actors, so if your commercial needs real people on screen, you'll want a live-action production company.
That split matters when you compare quotes, because a filmed commercial is priced by crew, shoot days and locations, and an animated one is priced by length and complexity. They're two different purchases and the numbers aren't comparable.
We'll tell you on the first call if your idea needs a camera. It's a shorter conversation than finding out three weeks in.
Animated commercial video production builds the ad from illustration, motion graphics and 2D or 3D animation instead of filmed footage. It wins whenever the thing you're selling can't be pointed at with a camera.
That covers most B2B software, since you can't film a workflow, a data model or a feature that ships next month. It also wins when you need many versions, because changing a line of voiceover or a headline in an animated ad is an edit rather than a reshoot. And it wins on a short deadline, because there's no scheduling, travel or weather.
Live action still wins when a real person telling their own story is the point, when the product is physical and tactile, or when the location is the message.
Most commercials work at 15 to 30 seconds, and a 6-second cut is worth having for pre-roll. Anything past 60 seconds is usually a brand film or an explainer rather than an ad.
Format is the part that catches teams out. A paid campaign normally needs 9:16 vertical for Reels, Shorts and TikTok, 1:1 or 4:5 for feed placements, and 16:9 for YouTube and LinkedIn landscape. We build those from one source so you aren't paying for three projects.
Two rules apply across all of them. Most people watch with the sound off, so captions and on-screen text do the work the voiceover would, and the brand should be recognizable in the first second rather than saved for an end card. Our breakdown of SaaS video ads that actually convert goes through this platform by platform.
Yes, and for paid campaigns we'd recommend it. A set of cuts testing different hooks, opening frames and calls to action is usually worth more than one polished video.
Animation makes this cheap in a way filming doesn't. Once the build exists, swapping the first three seconds, changing the end card or rewriting a line of voiceover is an edit rather than a new production.
The scale version of this is a campaign library rather than one ad. We made 14 animated videos for GieniABX over six weeks at two to three a week, running as paid ads with social and learning hub versions cut from the same work. The campaign has published 210,000 website visits, 14 million YouTube views and 56 million impressions.
Start from one idea and one action you want the viewer to take. A commercial that makes two arguments usually lands neither, because you have a few seconds before someone scrolls.
We can write the script or work from yours. Most clients send a product, a campaign brief or an existing landing page, and we write the hook, the script and the on-screen text from there. If your team has already written it, we sharpen it for the runtime and the sound-off read instead.
After that it's script, storyboard, animation, voiceover and sound design, with your review at each stage. For a tight runtime we recommend a storyboard first, because at 15 seconds every second has to earn its place and a storyboard is far cheaper to change than an animation.
Yes to both. You get the finished files, the source files and full commercial rights, and the music and voiceover are licensed for commercial use across platforms.
Check this with any supplier before you sign, because it matters more for a commercial than for other video. Paid media puts the video in front of far more people than an organic post does, and a track licensed only for organic use is a problem you discover after the campaign is live.
Tell us upfront if the ad will run on broadcast or in a market with its own clearance rules, since that can change which tracks we use.
A single commercial usually takes around 10 business days, plus your review time. A campaign of several videos runs faster per video than ordering them one at a time, because the style and the assets are built once.
For GieniABX we delivered 14 videos in six weeks, at two to three a week, with no room for delays. That pace is possible because the look is locked early and the later videos reuse it.
If you have a campaign launch date, tell us at the start. Animated work has no shoot to schedule, so the timeline bends around your review windows more than anything else.
Our commercials start at $3,480 for a 30-second animated video on fixed price, which is also the answer to what a 30-second commercial costs with us. A 120-second video runs from $5,580 to $6,700 depending on the tier, and the higher tiers add 3D and fuller sound design.
Video commercial production in the filmed market is priced very differently, since crew, locations, talent and shoot days drive most of the budget, and a mid-tier filmed commercial commonly runs well past $20,000. Animation removes that block, which is why we price by length and complexity instead of by shooting day.
For a campaign rather than one ad, the subscription at $3,950 a month costs less per video, and creative credits let you spread a budget across video, design and animation as the campaign changes. All our prices are published on the pricing page, and our marketing video cost guide covers the wider market. Tell us what the campaign needs to do and what you have to spend, and we'll shape the scope around it.
Start by deciding whether you need animation or live action, because that splits the market before anything else. Comparing an animation studio against a filmed production company means comparing two different products at two different price structures.
Once you're comparing like for like, four things separate them. Whether they've made ads in your category, so you aren't paying them to learn it. Whether they can produce a campaign's worth of video without the quality drifting between the first and the fourteenth. Whether they'll show you work before you sign. And what you own at the end, meaning source files, commercial rights and music cleared for paid use.
On portfolio, ask for complete ads rather than a showreel, and ask what the ads were for. A commercial video production company with a beautiful reel and no campaign results is selling craft rather than outcomes. G2 and Clutch are reasonable places to start a shortlist, and our comparison of the top video production companies sets out how the market is priced. Motion The Agency makes animated commercials for B2B and tech companies, and we've worked with over 200 companies since 2019.
Yes. Send us your URL and we'll make a free sample based on the messaging on your site, back within 48 hours, and you never pay for it.
You don't need a brief, a script or a call booked first. Most teams use the sample to judge the style and the pacing on their own brand, and if it fits, they come back with the campaign brief.
