A marketing sizzle reel exists to grab attention fast and make people want to know more. It's a short, high-energy video that brings together your strongest moments, like product UI, a launch, campaign footage, customer results or an event.
The hook has to land in the first five seconds, because that's the window you get before someone scrolls past. Momentum carries the rest, which is why reels show up as product launch teasers, homepage hero videos, the opener at a conference booth or on stage, a slide in a pitch deck, or the first touch in a cold email.
A sizzle reel won't close a deal on its own. It creates interest, and something else has to catch it.
A sizzle reel grabs attention, an explainer video builds understanding, and a product demo shows the product working for someone who is close to buying. A showreel is different again, since it's a portfolio of past work rather than a campaign asset.
So the reel is your first touch, at the top of the funnel, for people who don't know you yet. It hands them to the explainer and the demo further down. If people already understand what you do and you can only fund one video, a demo will do more for you than a reel.
Most sizzle reels run 60 to 90 seconds, which works for launches, campaigns and startup brand videos. Anything much longer stops being a sizzle reel and starts being an explainer.
The right length depends on where it plays. A booth loop or a social cut can be 30 seconds, while an investor reel or a seasonal showreel can run closer to two minutes. Whatever the length, the hook has to land in the first five seconds, and the reel should end on your strongest moment instead of fading out.
Start by deciding who the reel is for and what you want them to do next. At startup stage that's usually awareness, so the reel needs to make your market recognize the problem you solve and why you're the answer to it.
Then build the message. Name the problem or the confusion your audience has, decide what you want them to understand, and make your value proposition short and specific enough to justify why you're worth their time.
For the reel itself, 60 to 90 seconds works well. Pick the music first and cut to the beat, then structure it so it hooks the viewer straight away, presents the problem, shows proof the product works, builds momentum, and ends on one call to action. In the software sizzle reels we reviewed, most ran 40 to 120 seconds with music at roughly 80 to 120 BPM.
A sizzle reel for investors works as a high-energy proof of concept, usually 60 to 90 seconds, that shows your product, your momentum and your commercial potential before anyone opens the deck. Lead with your strongest visual or your most striking number instead of your logo.
Start with the investors themselves. Work out what they care about, how they see the problem you solve, and which numbers will convince them. Then find the one thing that separates you from every other company in their pipeline that week.
Give the reel a clear arc rather than a random montage, moving through the problem, what you've built, the proof it's working, and where it's going. The music sets the rhythm of the edit, and sound design keeps the energy up between cuts. End on your strongest moment and follow it with a clear next step, which for an investor reel is usually the meeting ask or your contact details.
Yes. Event content is one of the main reasons companies come to us, and we've produced for stage events including AI Engineer and Mirakl.
For an event we can make the reel plus the assets around it, like speaker intros, bumper videos, stage loops and booth screens. Two things help us plan. Send the event date as early as you can, since stage deadlines can't move, and send the screen specifications if you have them, because stage and booth screens vary a lot in size and shape.
You don't need a library of footage to get a sizzle reel. We can build one from animation, motion graphics and a stylized rebuild of your product UI.
Most B2B software companies are in this position, because there's nothing to film. If you do have material, like event recordings, customer clips or product screens, we'll use it and fill the gaps with animation.
Yes. The reel is built so it can be cut into a vertical version for social, shorter cuts for paid ads, a loop for event screens and a hero version for your homepage.
Tell us where it will play before we start, because it changes the edit. A social cut usually plays with the sound off, so it needs on-screen text that a homepage version doesn't, and an event loop often needs no call to action at all.
We handle the music and sound design, and we tell you what the license covers before the edit starts. You receive the finished files and the versions you need for each platform.
Music matters more here than in other videos, because the whole reel is cut to the track. If you have a brand track or a license you already own, send it early, since changing the music later means re-cutting the edit.
The best platforms for creating a professional sizzle reel are Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve for the edit, Final Cut Pro on a Mac, and After Effects when the reel needs typography, motion graphics or effects on top. For speed, web tools like Canva, CapCut and Descript get a reel out fast, with a more templated look.
The software matters less than people think. What makes a reel work is the pacing, the audio and knowing what to leave out. If you'd rather not edit it yourself, we make sizzle reels regularly, including for AI Engineer, ClickUp, Adaptify and Stagwell.
Upwork and Contra are where most freelance video editors take work, and Behance is the best place to check a portfolio before you hire. A freelancer is a good fit for a simple reel cut from footage you already have, like an event recap on a tight deadline.
A studio makes more sense when there isn't enough footage, or when the reel needs motion graphics, custom animation and sound design on top of the edit. That's more than one person usually covers well. We've made reels for AI Engineer, Mirakl, ClickUp and others, and you can watch the best of them in our sizzle reel compilation on YouTube.
Sizzle reel production services come from motion design studios, full-service production companies and freelance editors. Motion The Agency is a motion design studio, and we've made reels for SaaS, tech and healthcare companies including ClickUp, Stagwell, CallRail, AI Engineer, Adaptify and Mirakl.
We build reels that land the hook in the first five seconds and then carry the viewer through the rest of the message, whether that's a solution, a launch or a result. Every reel starts with the audio. We pick the track before animation begins and cut the whole thing to the beat, which is the part less experienced studios leave until last.
We also make our own sizzle reel every season, and you can watch those on our YouTube channel.
A 30-second sizzle reel starts at $4,080 on our fixed price, and you can also buy through a monthly subscription or creative credits if you need video regularly. All our prices are published, so you can plan your budget before you talk to anyone.
Standard delivery is 10 business days, or 5 with super fast delivery for 30% more, which matters when the reel is tied to an event or a launch date. Every project is scoped around what the reel needs to do, so if you're working to a set budget, tell us early. You can see the packages on our pricing page.
Before you commit, we'll make a free sample after a short call, based on the messaging on your website, and you never pay for it.
