How ClickUp Used Animation to Support Retention and Customer Enablement

ClickUp is a long-time customer, returning to us across multiple projects. As an enterprise, they needed more than a discussion partner — they needed an extension of their marketing, creative, and customer enablement team to help them focus on the bigger picture.

That is where Motion The Agency stepped in. We supported their retention and customer enablement campaigns with short explainer videos, tutorial animations, email GIFs, and social media assets, making sure every piece stayed on-brand, aligned with their campaign needs, and supported ongoing communication with existing users.

THE CLIENT

ClickUp

ClickUp is a productivity and work management platform founded in 2017 and headquartered in San Diego, California. As an enterprise team, they needed to keep their internal focus on bigger priorities while continuing to support and strengthen relationships with existing customers. MTA acted as an extension of their creative team, helping them create consistent video content for customer enablement, product education, and ongoing client communication.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The projects

ClickUp first came to us in early 2024 through our Fixed Price model, giving them flexible support for short videos, animation assets, and motion design tasks. In late 2025, they returned with a refreshed brand and a need for ongoing creative and marketing support.

For this case study, we are focusing on their retention, customer enablement, and product education campaigns. What started as a short term project grew into a 12-month Subscription-based partnership for 2026, with more than 30 projects completed in the first 6 months, including:
THE challenges

The challenges

Retention-specific campaign

Unlike awareness or acquisition campaigns, retention is not about introducing the product to the general public. It is about keeping existing customers engaged, informed, and confident that the product is still growing with their needs. For ClickUp, this meant the content had to support an ongoing relationship with users by helping them understand updates, adopt features, and see that ClickUp is listening to what they need.

Strict brand guidelines

Brand consistency was key. As a well-established enterprise, ClickUp already had a strict design system, colour palette, and clear visual rules. The challenge was making sure every asset did not just look polished, but felt unmistakably ClickUp — from the layout and UI details to the transitions and animation style.

Communication and timeline management

Communication took a little more planning. Most of our team is based across the UK and Asia, while ClickUp’s team is in the US, which gave us a smaller window for real-time conversations each day. To keep projects moving, we had to ask clear questions early, confirm details upfront, and set realistic timelines when multiple tasks were running at once.
OUTPUT

The project scope & results

Within the first six months of the subscription, we completed more than 30 projects for ClickUp. The dedicated team setup helped them move faster, stay consistent with their refreshed brand, and keep customer enablement content moving while their internal team focused on bigger campaigns.

Our Process

How we did it

Building a team focused on ClickUp

Long-term support meant we could build a team for ClickUp. With their 12-month subscription contract, we created a dedicated setup with designers, animators, and a project manager focused on their projects. This gave the team a stronger understanding of ClickUp’s refreshed brand, while making it easier to maintain quality control and keep every asset polished, consistent, and unmistakably ClickUp.

Frequent check-in and shift work

Given the detailed, iterative nature of the work, maintaining clear communication with the ClickUp team was essential. To do this, it was important to have a team member who was always on standby during their working hour. To bridge the gap, our project manager and animators on tight-deadline projects would take on US working hour shifts.

Asset planning

Planning was still key, but this project needed a more familiar approach. Because the content was made for existing ClickUp customers, every animation asset had to feel on-brand, recognisable, and aligned with the experience users already knew. It was not just about making something polished — it had to feel unmistakably ClickUp.
